Course Content: The basic building block of galaxies “stars”, star light, stellar spectra, the lives of the stars, binary stars, stellar photometry. Our Milky Way galaxy, structure, kinematics and coordinate system. Other Galaxies, galaxy types and observational characteristic. Diffuse matter (gas, dust, radiation) and dark matter. Galaxy grups, clusters and superclusters. Hubble Law and distance scale. Large-scale distribution of matter in the Universe.
